Coming Soon
A-7 D AircraftSiouxland Freedom Park will soon welcome an A-7 D Corsair II, a historic aircraft that has been on display at the former Martin’s Airfield in South Sioux City, NE. This impressive aircraft, weighing nearly 20,000 pounds, will be relocated in multiple phases, beginning in May 2025.
The first stage of the move will be an extraordinary sight— the CH-47 unit from the Iowa Army National Guard in Davenport will transport the A-7 D by helicopter from Martin’s Airfield to the 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City. Once there, the aircraft will undergo a full restoration, including washing, sanding, repairs, and a fresh coat of paint to return it to its original condition.
Later in 2025, the fully restored A-7 D will be moved to its final home at Siouxland Freedom Park, where it will be prominently displayed on the front lawn in front of the Interpretive Center on the west side of the building.
This aircraft, which flew from 1977 to 1992, was originally designed for close air support and interdiction missions, playing a vital role in military operations. Its arrival at Siouxland Freedom Park is made possible through the generous donation of Gene Martin, the South Sioux City VFW, and American Legion Post 307.
Stay tuned for updates as we prepare to welcome this historic aircraft to its new home, honoring those who have served.
