Dog Park

 

Located west of the Siouxland Freedom Park Interpretive Center is a dog park in honor of fallen South Sioux City native and dog handler – Navy Seal John Douangdara.  Douangdara along with 29 fellow service members and his War Dog, Bart were killed when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011.  Petty Officer 1st Class John Douangdara, 26, is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Siouxland Freedom Park, a nonprofit corporation, honors American Veterans and the men and women currently serving the United States by providing education of the role the American military plays in preserving American’s freedom, oral histories of those who served, and a healing place for reflection and contemplation.
