A Place To Remember Recording Studio

NOW OPEN TO ALL VETERANS

Our A Place to Remember Recording Studio is now open! Veterans are welcome to come and share their stories in our private space as they are guided through questions allowing them to reflect and share. Preserving these stories helps to honor our veterans for generations to come and creates a lasting memory for their families. To record your story, visit the Interpretive Center during our open hours or contact us to schedule a time.

A Place to Remember Recording Studio has been part of Siouxland Freedom Park’s vision since its initial conceptual design in 2007. The goal was to provide veterans with a space to share their stories through recorded interviews, preserving their experiences for future generations. Many veterans keep their service stories to themselves, never having the opportunity to share. This recording studio is designed to empower them—giving them a voice to reflect, remember, and inspire with the courage and strength of their own words. Construction of the studio was sponsored by Larry and Julie Delperdang.

The Siouxland Freedom Park Board partnered with Ideum, a New Mexico-based company specializing in immersive digital experiences and interactive designs, to bring the recording studio to life. Veterans enter, press a start button, and are guided through an interactive interview process. Thoughtfully crafted questions prompt veterans to reflect on their service, taking them on a journey through their memories. Ideum is renowned for creating the veteran storytelling experience at the WWII Museum in New Orleans.

Once a veteran records an interview in our studio, it will be uploaded to a cloud-based system, allowing recordings to be retrieved in full or by specific segments based on name or subject matter. In the future, these interviews will be accessible at the Interpretive Center with a touch screen or through our website, ensuring that veterans’ stories are preserved and shared for generations to come. Interviews will be made available on our website beginning in mid-December, 2025.

This phase of the project was made possible in part by funds raised at Freedom Ball 2024.
